Last year at D23, the ultimate Disney fan event hosted semiannually at the Anaheim Convention center, Disney announced their plans for a new Tron coaster attraction! They revealed that the new Tron Attraction would be built in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom park in Walt Disney World! The new attraction will be placed just beyond the area where Space Mountain is. Meaning along with the opening of the new coaster we can also look forward to an exciting expansion to Tomorrowland! As work gets underway to bring this new Tron coaster to life in the coming months we can anticipate a few changes and temporary closures around the park to accommodate for the construction. Disney has now announced the schedule for these changes and temporary closures. Here’s everything you can expect leading up to the exciting completion of the Tron Coaster!
Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad will take a hiatus from its grand circle trips around the park starting December 2018. During this temporary closure park guests will be able to get an up close and personal look at the railroad that will be temporarily residing at the Main Street Station. Disney has stated that during this time guests will be able to take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities with the Walt Disney World Train!
Tomorrowland Speedway
The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019. During this time the Disney Imagineers will be adjusting the speedway’s track. The Tomorrowland Speedway is set to reopen as the same attraction next summer of 2019.
Also, a fun new detail has been spotted in Storybook Circus! A little foreshadowing of what is to come, you can now spot a Tron-themed billboard from Storybook Circus!
The Tron attraction will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration in the year 2021! The new Tron attraction will be based on the TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland! Shanghai Disneyland’s TRON Lightcycle Power Run is the highest-rated attraction in their park! This has us very excited to be getting a version of the popular attraction here at Walt Disney World!
