1. A-Ma Temple

One of the most famous sites in Macau is the A-Ma Temple, constructed in the 15th century. The temple was originally dedicated to the seas goddess A-Ma. Over the centuries, the temple has evolved to become a haven for a number of different ideologies, including Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, as well as a number of local folk beliefs. It remains a site of pilgrimage for many visitors to Macau, particularly during the Chinese Spring Festival.

2. The Macau International Fireworks Display Contest
Held on the Macau Tower Shore front from mid-September to early October, the international fireworks competition promises some of the most spectacular displays of pyrotechnics in the world. Running since 1988, the competition has attracted competitors from all around the world. During this time of year, many people visit Macau from around the world to enjoy an exotic holiday, illuminated by the brightly-colored displays in the night sky.

3. Egg tarts
Derived from the Portuguese pastel de nata, the egg tart is arguably Macau’s most famous culinary treat. Since its introduction to the region several hundred years ago, it has spread throughout Asia, and still remains a favorite treat of many Macanese citizens. A visit to Macau is not complete without sampling one of these delicious delicacies!

4. Macau Tower

Standing 338m tall, Macau Tower is the 10th-Tallest free-standing building in the world. There’s shopping, dining and cinemas available within, as well as an observation deck situated 223m above the ground. If that seems a little pedestrian, it’s also possible to take the world’s highest bungee jump off the side – but be warned, it’s not for the faint of heart!

5. Ruins of St. Paul’s
The Ruins of St Paul’s is one of the most iconic sites in Macau. The southern stone façade is the only part of the building that remains standing, covered in Eastern-influenced carvings of Christian themes. It serves as a testament to the skill of the monks who carved it in the early decades of the 17th century.

6. Macau Grand Prix
Incorporating Formula Three events, World Touring Cars and motorbike events, the Macau Grand Prix has grown to become a firm favorite in the street racing circuit. 2013 marked the Diamond Jubilee of the Grand Prix, and preparations are already well underway for this year’s celebrations. So if you’re a racing fan, Macau is the place to be this November!

7. Senando Square

Serving as the main town square of Macau for centuries, Senando Square still remains a popular location for public events and celebrations to the present day. Many of the buildings are built in a neoclassical style, and painted in pastel colors, lending a Mediterranean atmosphere to the Asian surroundings.

8. See a show
Many larger hotels in Macau stage live entertainment shows – there are a number of permanent and temporary attractions. The most famous is the spectacular House of Dancing Water. The performance is staged five days a week in the City of Dreams, inside a theater that was built at a cost of $2 billion.
