Expedition
Everest
Legend of the
Forbidden Mountain
Expedition Everest is Disney’s newest
addition to its Animal Kingdom theme park in Walt Disney World, FL.
This massive mountain towers nearly 200 feet and excites riders with
an 80-foot plunge and almost a mile of track for a thrilling
adventure into the unknown. Disney has done an outstanding job with
this attraction and it fits perfectly into the Asia section of
Animal Kingdom.
The entirety of Expedition Everest was created with maticulate
detail. To begin the journey through the mountains guests must first
pass through the Serka Zong
village which houses a travel office, a
Buddhist courtyard, and a museum filled with thousands of artifacts,
pieces of
climbing equipment, and remnants of past expeditions gone
bad. This museum portrays the myth of the Yeti, a mysterious
abominable-snowman-like-creature who guards the mountain against
outsiders. Almost all of the items featured here are straight from
Tibet. Disney Imagineers put a lot of time into gathering these
items. They spent months is Asia preparing and researching to make
the experience as authentic as possible.
Now for the ride itself: Expedition Everest takes guests on an
adventure through the mountains on the way to Mount Everest.
Everyone will board a refurbished tea train that the Himalayan
Escapes tour company has acquired for the transportation of their
travelers. As the train leaves the
station it passes through the forest at the foot of the sacred
mountain before it finally begins its ascent into the mist of the
icy peaks. But no sooner than the train starts its journey, it comes
to a screeching halt as the train tracks have been ripped from the
ground. The train then suddenly starts to move backward and guests
are thrust into the darkness of the mountain. When the train stops
again it is in a cave and travelers then see the reason why the tracks are
mangled. The Yeti is responsible. The train then races away on an
attempt to try and evade the Yeti, and hopefully return safely to
civilization.
Disney has done a wonderful job designing this magnificent
attraction. Expedition Everest is an experience that no one in the
family will want to miss.
