Yachtsman Steakhouse
Located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
Dinner
The menu that was on
display at the entrance served both as invitation and a warning.
Make no mistake about it this is a steakhouse. With the exception of
one or two seafood dishes the menu is really a list of who’s who in
the world of beef. If you were still under the false impression that
this is anything less than an All-American steakhouse, in the finest
tradition, the window display case with its beef hanging for all to
see and the butcher carving out various cuts for that night’s menu
should be enough to convince you otherwise.
The fact that we were in search of a table for two and the priority
seating we had made before leaving home combined to keep our wait
for a table to less than five minutes. We followed the cast member
through and past several dining areas until she located our table
which gave the perception of intimacy, although it was apparent that
this is a rather large restaurant. Having been instructed by our
hostess to wait for our server I began to scan the menu that she had
placed on the table. If I recall correctly there was beef, beef,
seafood, seafood and beef, beef, lamb, beef and more beef.
More specifically some of the Entrée selections included; Angus New
York Strip Steak, Charred Angus Bourbon Strip Steak, Prime Beef Rib
Eye, Angus Prime Rib, Yachtsman Filet Mignon, a 24oz Center-cut
Porterhouse and a Chateaubriand for Two. For the Seafood lover who
found their allegiance torn there was the Land and Sea, which
consisted of Twin Beef Medallions and a Warm Water Lobster Tail. In
addition to the Land and Sea combo there were Maine Diver Scallops.
And for those who had simply wandered into the wrong restaurant
there were both a Free-range Chicken plate and Winter Ravioli dish.
Our server who had found us during our inspection of the menu helped
us in both the selection of our entrees and wine. Her interest in
what we were considering was not on the same level as ours and
although that can be understandable I found it to be a slight
disappointment.
I passed on an appetizer conserving my energy for the entree, but
our table did see the Lobster Bisque, which was found to be
outstanding. My dinner companion had selected the Charred Angus
Bourbon Strip Steak, which is a 12 oz New York Strip Steak marinated
in Bourbon, served with mashed potatoes. My pseudo-beef selection
was the New Zealand Rack of Lamb with mashed potatoes and a Merlot
Lamb Jus. Both of these dishes saw a substitution of the mashed
potatoes with a Wild Mushroom Risotto. The Strip Steak with Bourbon
marinate definitely changed the flavor of the meat, but was both
enjoyed and appreciated. The Rack of Lamb was more generous in its
serving than some I have ordered in the past, but on par with any in
terms of flavor and tenderness that have eaten. The Wild Mushroom
Risotto although not intended to be served with either dish only
added to the over all flavor and enjoyment.
Not wanting to risk the ending to an excellent meal it was decided
that we would share the Dessert Sampler Platter for Two. And as a
result of this decision were treated to Florida key Lime Pie, Jack
Daniels Mousse Cake, Crème Brulee and a White Chocolate Macadamia
Nut Pie.
