Trails End Buffeteria
Fort Wilderness Campgrounds & Resort
Lunch Buffet

We had just finished horseback riding in Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground and were making our way back to Disney’s Contemporary Resort where we were staying. It was well past noon as the Disney bus let us off near Pioneer Hall where we would catch the boat that would take us back to our resort. It was decided that we were all pretty hungry and after riding the trails some “good grub” at the Trails End Buffet sounded like a right good idea.

The buffet featuring Fried chicken, barbecue sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, soup, salad bar, pizza and Southwestern turkey wrap sandwiches was simple but plentiful and allowed for a variety of tastes and appetites to be satisfied. The seven and eight year olds that were apart of this adventure especially seemed to enjoy the simple cuisine and found their way back for seconds.
The atmosphere was casual, as was to be expected perhaps, but what I didn’t expect was the casual service. I found myself looking for utensils, searching for ketchup, waiting for our drinks and for the most part serving my own table.
As we boarded the boat that would take us back to the Contemporary Resort I began making mental notes that I would later write down. Although I felt a little more than disappointed in the distant and even at times absent service we had experienced I could not help but notice the obviously good time that the kids seemed to be having. And judging by the smiles on their faces the trail ride that I had found to be a yawn and our stop at this “wilderness” outpost just might end up being the highlight of their trip. So was it worth the effort? It is the stuff that memories are made of.
