Tony's Town Square
Main Street - Magic Kingdom
Dinner
There is a
separate waiting area located just inside the entrance to the
restaurant and as I entered I was quick to discover several cast
members who were busily addressing waiting guests. Within a few
short minutes it was my turn and with the near full attention of a
cast member I surrendered my last name and the priority seating
number I secured before leaving home. With a smile she told me it
would be about ten minutes before my table would be ready. I was
encouraged by the fact that there apparently was a table just inside
that belonged to me and whoever it was that was currently occupying
it was going to be leaving soon.
Within the small waiting area there were several families waiting
for people to leave their tables and many of the children had
positioned themselves in front of a TV that was playing the Disney
feature cartoon, “Lady and the Tramp”.
Within ten minutes or so I was told that the other guests who had
been seated at my table had left and was escorted into the main
dining area.
After being presented with a menu a server was quick to find me and
take my drink order. Although I must applaud the efficiency of the
service I was getting the feeling that I was being rushed.
Returning with my drink order the server asked if I was ready to
order. Still being a little suspicious of his intentions I decided
to tap the brakes on this high speed service by ordering only my
appetizer. After ordering the Apple and Gorgonzola Salad I continued
to survey the section of the menu which listed the second course or
entrees. There were roughly a half dozen or so items listed so in
order continue with my plan of slowing down the pace of the meal I
had to pretend to be considering all of them.
When my server returned with my salad I told him that I had not yet
settled on the main course. Now maybe I was being a little unfair
but I seemed to sense a little disappointment as he retreated.
Having actually settled on the Chicken Fiorentina during the second
read through I set the menu aside and focused on my salad. The
ingredients were all very fresh and the combination of caramelized
apples, sweet gorgonzola and candied walnuts were delicious and
delightful.
The server skillfully combined the actions of clearly away my empty
salad bowl, soliciting my approval and taking my main course order
into one simple polished and flawless motion. Accepting the fact
that I had been trumped I relaxed with my appetite partially
satisfied and decided to take in a little of my surroundings.
The dining room is open and airy and really beautifully designed
with turn-of-the-century architecture and its art nouveau mirrors.
There is also a partial view of the beginning of Main Street and
City Hall across Town Square.
The Chicken Fiorentina was nicely presented and the combination of
chicken breast topped with prosciutto, spinach and melted cheese
made for a tasty prospect. The dish was also served with roasted
potatoes, and marsala mushroom demi . The portions are rather large
and as tasty as the meal was, I struggled to finish it. After the
dishes were cleared away I was determined to stage a sit in, at
least until my appetite return enough to order dessert, so I ordered
a cup of coffee. My server apparently had switched strategies,
because he encouraged me to relax and take my time because the
desserts were delicious and worth the wait.
In my final act of capitulation I order and thoroughly enjoyed the
Banana Chocolate Creme Brulee with carmelized bananas.
