The Plaza Restaurant
Located in the Magic Kingdom
Lunch

I have found that even as an adult it's hard for me to resist the allure of a visit to the Magic Kingdom on a first day at Walt Disney World. There is one restaurant at this park where I can always seemed to find a table for lunch, so we decided to head there.

There were no less than three cast members positioned around the podium that is in front of the restaurant encouraging passing guests to slip inside for lunch. This has always struck me as being a little peculiar; since it really is a pleasant place to dine and the prices are in line with other theme park restaurants at Walt Disney World. It is worth mentioning that this restaurant is tucked away around the corner at the end of Main Street U.S.A. and is somewhat obscured from view, which may partly explain this phenomenon. Indeed most guest as they head down Main Street U.S.A. are most often moonstruck by that Cinderella Castle and easily pass by this eatery unaware of its presence.

The cast member at the podium dutifully checked her seating chart and entered our names before escorting us into a half empty dining room. There are two sections to the dining room and I was pleased to be seated in the area furthest away from the door. This was for one obvious reason and one that became apparent after we took our seats. Here we were subjected to less traffic and as an additional bonus had a picture perfect view of Cinderella Castle.

My lunch companion and I have for years shared an admiration for a good Ruben sandwich and will often treat ourselves to one while visiting Walt Disney World, at least until our doctors forbid it. Also due to the fact that this restaurant is next door to the Main Street Ice Parlor you can enjoy a traditional and delicious variety of creamy, thick milk shakes. This made taking our order easy for our server, as she simply wrote down two Rubens and two chocolate shakes.

Now if a Ruben is not on your diet the menu is populated with a wide variety of sandwiches and salads, including a Grilled 6 oz. hamburger, which is 6 ounces before cooking just in case you are keeping score and an eye appealing and tasty Chicken & Pear Salad.

Sipping our water as we waited for our food gave us an opportunity to observe the wide variety of guests, that included young families pushing strollers, as well as, mature couples some with matching outfits, all of whom were headed off to a day of fantasy and adventure.

By the end of our meal we had enjoyed some pretty good food, but even more importantly we had enjoyed a moment that reminded us why we and literally millions of guests are drawn back to this very special piece of real estate in Florida.
