Columbia Harbour House
Located in the Magic Kingdom
Lunch
Why the Columbia Harbour House? A
couple of reasons led to this decision. One, we were trying to take
it a little easy on our vacation budget, so we had steered away from
the full service restaurants also located in the Magic Kingdom.
Secondly, we have not eaten here is several years and there is always
a need for a fresh restaurant review for this newsletter. And, in a
not so practical sense it just seem to fit in with the cold December
temperature and the almost casual pace we had assumed because of the
low crowds and easy touring conditions we had found.
At first it was hard to tell if it was crowded because the
restaurant is broken up into quite a few separate dining areas
including one that is tucked away upstairs. Walking up to the
counter I found that I was already next in line, so I quickly had to
gather everyone’s order. My wife selected the chicken strip basket
that included a choice of either carrots or French fries. My six
year old son had just finished off an ice cream in Fantasyland and
wound up nibbling on one of his mom’s chicken strips. We are
actually very responsible parents, but this seemingly irresponsible
choice of nutrition for a growing boy sometimes happens while we are
on vacation. As for myself I choose the Clam Chowder in a bread
bowl. The combination of colder temperature and my love of both soup
and bread made this an easy decision.
The separate dining areas allowed us to find a quiet spot where we
were able to feel unrushed and relaxed as we turned our attention to
the food we had carried on a tray from the counter. My wife’s
chicken strips were very similar to others we have eaten at other
counter service restaurants throughout Walt Disney World. The three
rather large chicken strips of whole white meat and a not to thick
and tasty bread coating were certainly enough to satisfy her
appetite. My clam chowder and bread bowl was not the best I have
ever encountered but delicious enough and filling enough not to make
me regret having ordered it.
I could not help but notice that table next to ours had ordered a
couple of rather appealing looking stacked sandwiches on rye bread.
It appeared they were large enough that a single sandwich could
possibly be shared by two.
For our family of three on this most enjoyable December day in the
Magic Kingdom the Columbia Harbour House not only satisfied our
appetites but also afforded us an inexpensive and enjoyable lunch.
