Cape May Café
Located at
Disney’s Beach Club Resort
Dinner Buffet
The Cape May
Café had made our short list of Disney restaurants for what was to
be our final night of this vacation at the Walt Disney World
Resort®.
It had been several years since I had last ventured over to this
combo seafood & clam bake buffet, and I had a vague recollection of
having enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.
After checking in at the podium and surrendering our name and
priority seating number to the cast member we were given an
electronic device that would summon us when our table was ready. In
less than 10 minutes its display of pulsating red lights made me the
envy of the guests whose devices had yet to inform them that their
table was waiting.
Our party of eight, which included
four adults and four children ages four, six, six and seven, a fact
that seemed to endlessly intrigue Disney throughout our stay, was
escorted to a table located next to the main buffet area. Normally
being this close to the continuous activity that surrounds a buffet
would be a negative, but with four plates that would need assistance
being filled meant the short walk had suddenly become a positive. A
late breakfast and a lunchtime that had yielded to more pool time
caused us to escort to the kids to the special kids buffet area as
soon as we were given the green light by our server. Our hungry kids
found many of their favorite foods including pizza, macaroni &
cheese, fish and chicken strips.
After fulfilling our parental responsibilities the adults headed
over to the buffet which is a four sided affair that dominates the
center of the dining room. One side is dedicated to a selection of
fresh salads, fruits and two soups, which this night included New
England Clam Chowder and Tomato Bisque with Basil. Another side
featured seafood, including Prince Edward Sound Mussels, Clams with
Garlic Butter, Peel and Eat Shrimp and Fresh Fish. The two remaining
sides offered some fresh vegetables, several potato dishes, breads,
and carving station with Prime Rib and smoked BBQ Pork Ribs for the
land lovers.
The first course or run at this endless supply of food yielded a
delicious fresh salad and some very tasty New England Clam Chowder.
Our second trip saw us load up on some Mussels and Clams. Both were
certainly tasty and acceptable but the Mussels were the table’s
favorite and first choice for seconds. A plate of sample size
portions of the prime rib, salmon, BBQ pork ribs, potatoes and corn
on the cob was trucked over next. The stand outs were the garlic
smashed potatoes and the salmon, which was prepared with a spinach
based sauce.
I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and tasty the food managed
to be, and contributed it to some very hungry guests who did not
allow the food to remain at the buffet very long, as well as a hard
working wait staff that managed to keep it coming.
Each table is covered entirely with a white butcher type paper which
this night served a dual purpose. The first and obvious is that it
made for an easy and quick clean up, but also with the crayons that
were evenly distributed among the kids made for an activity that
kept them busy long after they devoured their dinner. This break in
child rearing and the relaxed atmosphere along with the good company
and delicious food made for a most enjoyable evening.
As we exited the restaurant and the hotel, we stepped onto the
Boardwalk and found that indeed it had stopped raining and all that
remained was to enjoy a relaxing stroll and some simple
conversation. |
